In April 2022 we unveiled the new Mon 紋 or Kamon 家紋 of Getsumei no Michi Dojo.
Mon is a Japanese emblem or crest, traditionally representative of a family or clan, that often adorned the armour and sashimono 指物 (banners) of samurai.
Our mon signifies our dojo name, translated in english as 'The Moonlit Path. Surrounded by enzo, the crest is comprised of the moon, with dojo name in kanji, rising over the sea (represented by the traditional wave pattern).
As one of Tong sensei's first students I have proudly worn and displayed the taka no hana (crossed feathers) of Tokumeikan for many years. Though our dojo has adopted our own identity, as an official Tokumeikan study group and as a lifelong student of Tong sensei, Tokumeikan will forever hold my dedication and commitment.
